10 Times Table Five-Day Plan
About 10 minutes a day. Each day names the facts to practice and one thing to do away from the screen. Tick the box when the day is done.
Day 1: the first half
Say 10 x 1 to 10 x 6 out loud, then skip count by 10s: 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60.
Tip: Write the number, then add a zero in the ones place: 10 x 8 = 80. Explain it with dimes: eight dimes make eighty cents.
Away from the screen: Count dimes by tens into a cup: 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 cents. Say the fact that matches each coin added.
Day 2: the second half and the turnarounds
Say 10 x 7 to 10 x 12, then flip each one: 7 x 10, 8 x 10 and 9 x 10 have the same answers.
Pattern: Every answer ends in 0, and the tens digit matches the number you multiplied by, up to 10 x 9 = 90.
Away from the screen: Add a zero on paper for 10 x 7 to 10 x 12 and read each answer out loud as cents, then as a number.
Day 3: the 3 hardest facts
Say 10 x 11, 10 x 12 and 10 x 10 five times each, then go through the whole table once in mixed order.
Why these: Only 10 x 11, 10 x 12 and 10 x 10 cause trouble, because the answers pass 100. Show them with dimes and dollars.
Away from the screen: Count bundles of ten craft sticks or pencils for 10 x 10, 10 x 11 and 10 x 12, then say the answers without counting.
Day 4: the whole table, mixed
Ask all 12 facts of the 10 times table in mixed order, out loud. Repeat any miss at the end.
Away from the screen: Ask quick 10s facts while brushing teeth, one fact per turn of the brush. Mix the order every night.
Day 5: the self-check
Answer the 12 questions below on paper, with no help and no timer.
Away from the screen: Keep the answer key face down until the end. Answer the 12 questions with a pencil, then check them together. Practice each miss three more times.
