6 Times Table Five-Day Plan
About 10 minutes a day. Each day names the facts to practice and one thing to do away from the screen. Tick the box when the day is done.
Day 1: the first half
Say 6 x 1 to 6 x 6 out loud, then skip count by 6s: 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36.
Tip: Find the threes fact and double it: 6 x 7 is double 3 x 7, so double 21 is 42. Even numbers times 6 also end in the same digit as the number.
Away from the screen: Use an egg carton cut in half: six cups. Count by sixes as each half carton fills with buttons or beads.
Day 2: the second half and the turnarounds
Say 6 x 7 to 6 x 12, then flip each one: 7 x 6, 8 x 6 and 9 x 6 have the same answers.
Pattern: When 6 multiplies an even number, the answer ends in that number: 6 x 4 = 24, 6 x 6 = 36, 6 x 8 = 48.
Away from the screen: Roll a single die twelve times and multiply each roll by 6. Then say the facts from 6 x 7 to 6 x 12 in order.
Day 3: the 3 hardest facts
Say 6 x 7, 6 x 8 and 6 x 9 five times each, then go through the whole table once in mixed order.
Why these: 6 x 7, 6 x 8 and 6 x 9 are among the most missed facts in any table. A short daily round on just these three pays off fast.
Away from the screen: Write 6 x 7, 6 x 8 and 6 x 9 on cards and hide them around the kitchen. Each card found must be answered out loud.
Day 4: the whole table, mixed
Ask all 12 facts of the 6 times table in mixed order, out loud. Repeat any miss at the end.
Away from the screen: Play a quick game of catch where each throw is a 6s fact in mixed order. Keep a tally of the facts answered right.
Day 5: the self-check
Answer the 12 questions below on paper, with no help and no timer.
Away from the screen: Keep the answer key face down until the end. Answer the 12 questions with a pencil, then check them together. Practice each miss three more times.
