8 Times Table Five-Day Plan
About 10 minutes a day. Each day names the facts to practice and one thing to do away from the screen. Tick the box when the day is done.
Day 1: the first half
Say 8 x 1 to 8 x 6 out loud, then skip count by 8s: 8, 16, 24, 32, 40, 48.
Tip: Double, double, double: for 8 x 6, double 6 to 12, then 24, then 48. Once that feels easy, practice saying the answer straight away.
Away from the screen: Count spider legs in a picture book: one spider has 8 legs, two spiders have 16. Keep going to six spiders.
Day 2: the second half and the turnarounds
Say 8 x 7 to 8 x 12, then flip each one: 7 x 8, 9 x 8 and 10 x 8 have the same answers.
Pattern: The last digits count down by twos: 8, 6, 4, 2, 0, then repeat. Every answer is also in the 4 times table.
Away from the screen: Stack building bricks in towers of eight and count each tower by eights from seven towers up to twelve.
Day 3: the 3 hardest facts
Say 8 x 7, 8 x 6 and 8 x 12 five times each, then go through the whole table once in mixed order.
Why these: 8 x 7, 8 x 6 and 8 x 12 are the ones most often missed. Pair 8 x 7 = 56 with the counting rhyme 5, 6, 7, 8.
Away from the screen: Say double, double, double out loud for 8 x 6, 8 x 7 and 8 x 12, writing each step on a scrap of paper.
Day 4: the whole table, mixed
Ask all 12 facts of the 8 times table in mixed order, out loud. Repeat any miss at the end.
Away from the screen: Walk up the stairs and say one 8s fact on every step, in mixed order. Start again at the bottom if one is missed.
Day 5: the self-check
Answer the 12 questions below on paper, with no help and no timer.
Away from the screen: Keep the answer key face down until the end. Answer the 12 questions with a pencil, then check them together. Practice each miss three more times.
