11 Times Table Five-Day Plan

About 10 minutes a day. Each day names the facts to practice and one thing to do away from the screen. Tick the box when the day is done.

  1. Day 1: the first half

    Say 11 x 1 to 11 x 6 out loud, then skip count by 11s: 11, 22, 33, 44, 55, 66.

    Tip: Up to 9, double the digit: 11 x 6 = 66. For 11 x 11 and 11 x 12, add ten times the number to the number: 110 + 11 = 121.

    Away from the screen: Write 11 x 1 to 11 x 6 as pairs of matching digits, like 33 and 44, and read each answer out loud.

  2. Day 2: the second half and the turnarounds

    Say 11 x 7 to 11 x 12, then flip each one: 7 x 11, 8 x 11 and 9 x 11 have the same answers.

    Pattern: 11, 22, 33 up to 99, then 110, 121 and 132. The pattern breaks after 9, which is where most mistakes happen.

    Away from the screen: For 11 x 10, 11 x 11 and 11 x 12, add ten times the number to the number with coins: dimes for the tens, pennies for the ones.

  3. Day 3: the 3 hardest facts

    Say 11 x 12, 11 x 11 and 11 x 10 five times each, then go through the whole table once in mixed order.

    Why these: 11 x 12, 11 x 11 and 11 x 10 break the repeat pattern. Practice them on their own until they feel as easy as 11 x 3.

    Away from the screen: Practice 11 x 10, 11 x 11 and 11 x 12 on a small whiteboard by writing the two parts and adding them. Erase and do it again.

  4. Day 4: the whole table, mixed

    Ask all 12 facts of the 11 times table in mixed order, out loud. Repeat any miss at the end.

    Away from the screen: Play a mixed 11s quiz on a car ride: one person asks, the other answers, and you swap after each wrong answer.

  5. Day 5: the self-check

    Answer the 12 questions below on paper, with no help and no timer.

    Away from the screen: Keep the answer key face down until the end. Answer the 12 questions with a pencil, then check them together. Practice each miss three more times.
