The 13 times table is an optional stretch for children who have the 12s down. It turns up in puzzles, card games and the days of a lunar month.

The answers alternate between odd and even, starting with 13, 26, 39 and 52. The digits of 13 x 2 to 13 x 9 climb steadily in the tens place and sit one above the last digit of the 3 times table.
Tip for the 13 times table
Split 13 into 10 and 3: for 13 x 6, add 10 x 6 = 60 and 3 x 6 = 18 to get 78. A deck of cards has 13 ranks in every suit, so a game of cards makes a fun way to count in 13s.
The 3 hardest facts
- 13 × 6 = 78
- 13 × 7 = 91
- 13 × 8 = 104
13 x 6, 13 x 7 and 13 x 8 are the facts children stall on, because the 3 part reaches into the high teens. Say the two small steps out loud before adding them.
Turnaround facts
Swapping the numbers gives the same answer, so each fact below is learned once and used twice.
- 13 × 1 = 1 × 13 = 13
- 13 × 2 = 2 × 13 = 26
- 13 × 3 = 3 × 13 = 39
- 13 × 4 = 4 × 13 = 52
- 13 × 5 = 5 × 13 = 65
- 13 × 6 = 6 × 13 = 78
- 13 × 7 = 7 × 13 = 91
- 13 × 8 = 8 × 13 = 104
- 13 × 9 = 9 × 13 = 117
- 13 × 10 = 10 × 13 = 130
- 13 × 11 = 11 × 13 = 143
- 13 × 12 = 12 × 13 = 156

Questions parents ask
Does my child need to learn the 13 times table?
Not for most classrooms. It is a stretch goal for children who already know every fact up to 12 x 12 and want something new.
How can I check a 13 times table answer quickly?
Take the answer for the same number times 10, add the answer for the same number times 3, and compare. If both steps agree, the fact is right.
