The 2 times table is doubling. If your child can add a number to itself, they already know every fact on this page.

  7. 14
  8. 16

Tip for the 2 times table

Think of pairs: 2 x 7 is two sevens, or 7 + 7. Socks, shoes and hands make good everyday examples for doubling practice.

The 3 hardest facts

Doubling 7, 8 and 12 trips up young learners because they cross a ten. Practice 7 + 7 and 8 + 8 until they come quickly.

Turnaround facts

Swapping the numbers gives the same answer, so each fact below is learned once and used twice.

Questions parents ask

What is the fastest way to learn the 2s?

Skip count by twos while climbing stairs or clapping. After a week, switch to saying the fact, like two times six is twelve.

How does the 2 times table help with the 4s?

Doubling twice gives the 4 times table. Knowing 2 x 6 = 12 means 4 x 6 is 12 doubled, which is 24.
